The master bath was a design challenge due to the relatively small size, and the fact that we needed to fit in closet space as well as a functional bathroom. Rather than squeezing in a bathtub, we decided to stick with a walk in shower. A floating vanity is designed to allow the eye to see the floor extend all the way to the wall, giving a feeling of spaciousness and allowing for easy cleaning of the bathroom floor. The tile on the main floor of the bathroom is a continuous running bond in large format porcelain. The grey grout continues into the shower stall as a unifying element. The wall tile was chosen for its texture and subtle color variations and the mitered corners give a sense of a monolithic element rather than a series of separate wall planes. One of the advantages of the design-build system is that we have complete control of the quality of workmanship. Otherwise, we may not have specified the mitered corners for fear of a sloppy or incompetent installation job. We were happy with the final result, and the bathroom will take on new life once the painting is complete.
