“Four Brothers replaced the kitchen in our inside row house, which also involved removing the existing wall between the old kitchen and dining room and replacing the ceiling and molding throughout the kitchen and dining room area. This was a gut renovation of the middle portion of the first floor of the house, creating an open kitchen-dining room space. The house is a 1930s urban row house. Four Brothers was able to preserve the original architecture and where it was necessary to tear out and replace molding, they were able to match the original. They did all the work, including design, cabinetry, and installation.
This was a positive experience in all respects. Four Brothers was not the lowest estimate we received, but then it is not always easy for a customer to know if you are comparing apples to apples on a project like this, since there are many options and variables. But Four Brothers estimate was far from the highest and we felt confident in their quality, so we went with them. We do not regret that decision. There was some additional work that we added to the original project, at our request, including additional painting and a new vent in a powder room near the kitchen. There were also some modest structural issues discovered when the ceiling was removed and Four Brothers knew what to do to fix them. The add-on costs for this work was quite reasonable.
The first thing I would note is the quality of the Four Brothers people you are working with all through the process, from design through construction. They are articulate, personable, and knowledgeable, and patient when you ask for changes or to consider other options. This is especially true of the Four Brothers staff but also of the various sub-contractors whom they employ.
We were given a day-by-day work schedule at the beginning of the project and everything was completed exactly on schedule, despite the fact that we had a few days of bad weather during the six weeks of the work. They were here on time every morning. They were also available by email or text message in the evening if we had a question about something done that day and they responded quickly to any questions or requests. I have just never experienced that kind of responsiveness from a contractor before.
Our project required substantial demolition, including a plaster ceiling. This is inevitably dirty work, but we were pleasantly surprised at the extent of the contractor’s efforts to minimize the dust. They used an air purifier, fans to blow the dust outside, and carefully covered air vents to prevent the circulation of dust through the house. Their cleanup at the end of every work day was excellent and the best that we have seen. The impact of the construction on our living in other parts of the house was minimal. Ours is a 1930s row house and it had some intricacies. I was impressed at Four Brothers’ creativity in adapting to those complications and finding creative approaches to things like re-routing of heat ducts and electrical supplies, again with minimal disruption to other parts of the house. Trash was removed promptly from our property.
The lead carpenter on our project was here every day and closely supervised the work of subs. The quality of the construction has been excellent and we are very pleased with the beautiful kitchen they created. They attend to every detail. For example, we had original dentil molding that was intricate and needed to be removed and replaced in this project. The new molding needed to match the original because the same is used in adjoining rooms. However, that molding is no longer available at a lumber yard. Four Brothers was able to create it themselves and it took some skill and creativity to do so.
In sum, this was the best experience we have ever had with a contractor and I have owned and improved many houses over the past forty years. If we undertake future remodeling, we will call Four Brothers, LLC.”

“I am sending this note to thank you for the opportunity that you have given our company to work with Four Brothers Carpentry. We very much appreciate the business you have given us over the past 2 years.
That being said, I also want to let you know that we appreciate the efforts put forth by your field staff to make our jobs that much easier, as your jobs are always well prepared for our work to begin. All of your men are thorough, very professional and great to work with. Even my installers and finishers have remarked to me that your superintendents are extremely smart, and understanding of all aspects of the jobs in which they are working.
I also wanted to point out to you what makes Four Brothers Carpentry unique amongst the many builders we work with, is the fact that you have staff available at all times in the homes in which you are working. That is not only is a huge benefit for us, but has to be a very comforting thought for your customers, knowing there is always someone on hand. With the pressure to get more out of every employee, most companies run their superintendents to multiple jobs each day, with very little oversight. However, with Four Brothers Carpentry, we see the difference, and as such, helps us immensely when questions arise.
Thanks again for your trust in 5th Avenue Floors, and the professionalism exhibited by everyone I come in contact with at your company. It is a pleasure to be a part of your team.”

“We contacted Four Brothers about renovating the kitchen in our Capitol Hill row house after seeing the work they did for a friend. From the first visit to get an estimate through the final walk-through, our experience with Four Brothers was wonderful. The Four Brothers team helped us with all aspects of the job, including the design, and delivered a finished kitchen that was just what we wanted – a modern kitchen with a historic appeal. The quality of their work was top-notch and they were very responsive to any requests or concerns we had as the project progressed. Throughout the process, the whole team at Four Brothers was professional, courteous and very accessible. We look forward to working with them again in the future.”

“It’s been over a year since we’ve completed our kitchen, and we still have friends and family raving about how beautiful it is. Each meal we prepare is easy and fun, it is definitely the center of our home. The whole team was extremely organized, easy to work with, and a pleasure to interact with from start to finish. The design process was quick and easy with Liz’s help. The on-site project lead kept all team members and sub-contractors on the ball. Ben dealt with any and all questions and concerns clearly, and in a flash.”

“We highly recommend Four Brothers who built our screened in porch. It is not an ordinary porch but thanks to the design and craftsmanship, it is a unique addition to our home. The space is practical for our family while also shows great style. From the reclaimed barn wood on the walls to the beamed ceilings and the built-in benches- we love our new outdoor room.
In addition to demonstrating great craftsmanship, the company upholds the highest integrity. Over the course of the project, all of the employees were hardworking, honest and committed to the final product.
The project was well organized and the company was receptive to feedback and demonstrated flexibility. Four Brothers took steps beyond the usual expectations to ensure that the final product looked just right—from the porch door, to the floors to the top notch paint job.
We have worked with many companies over our years as homeowners and Four Brothers is by far the best. We look forward to our next opportunity to hire Four Brothers for another project.”

“I heard of Four Brothers through a friend who recommended the company on the quality of their Workmanship. I really struck gold. Leroy and Keith (lead carpenter) were fantastic. The job was a fairly extensive interior remodel of an old Georgetown house. I was worried the job would run over budget as we would discover problems once we gutted the house. Leroy did an extensive pre-contract inspection and the job came in right on price and they even finished 2 weeks before the due date!
I redid all the bathrooms, floors, kitchen and replace floors and back doors. The quality of the built in cabinets and cupboards are great, it really increases the space in the house.
Leroy and Keith were incredibly responsive to all my requests and worked well with the Architect. The tidiness during construction was impeccable with everything being swept and kept tidy. All the sub contractors (HVAC, plumber, tiles, electrician) did great work.
Overall I am thrilled with my new/old house and really think Four Brothers is an exceptional company”

“We are totally satisfied with the completion of the project and want you and your brothers to know how pleased we are with everything your company did on this project. We looked at a number of firms to do the renovation but the recommendation of a personal friend carried a lot of weight, and we were impressed with you from the outset. At every step along the way we found you and your team to be helpful, responsive and highly competent. Your company has a very positive energy in its staff that made the whole project very easy. CJ’s work on the design and his suggestions for colors, flooring, and windows were good and helped us in the planning stages. Your input and explanation of the different components of the job made all our decisions easy.
We save the highest praise, however, for Phil, the Lead Carpenter. We know that you and your brothers recognize what an incredible asset he is to your organization. Elizabeth and I can confirm your assessment of his value. Phil did a great job with the work itself. He is a skillful carpenter and innovative problem solver. The frames, walls, windows are solid, level and good looking. We were always impressed with the extent to which Phil went above and beyond the basics of a good job and sought for outstanding. Some examples that quickly come to mind include recessing the unexpected light switch into the brick wall, covering the entry stairs to the sunroom with custom cut and stained treads and risers, building that porch/stairwell that none of us had planned on, helping us hang the television and more. He was always on time and stayed as long as needed. He was very pleasant to work with and both patient and engaging with our questions and conversations. He managed the staff and subcontractors well. I’ll end by saying that it only impressed us even more to learn how Four Brothers took on an employee like Phil with little experience and in just over a year have developed him into the lead site manager we had in our house these past weeks. While that’s to Phil’s credit, it also says a lot about the kind of company the Johnson brothers are building. We sing your praises and would recommend you without hesitation to anyone.”

“After inquiring with family and friends for a firm we could entrust with a renovation project, the one recommendation that stood out was FOUR BROTHERS LLC. We were told that this company was so outstanding that no other came close. Our high expectations were fulfilled.
Although the condominium we recently moved into was in very good condition overall, the one area that did need to be renovated was the back bathroom. It was too cramped, with a tiny shower, sink and wc. We wanted to change the entrance to this bathroom and enlarge the room by incorporating the space taken up by a closet housing the washer/dryer.
From the first, we were impressed by Ben Johnson, who combined knowledge, experience, creativity, good taste, charm and endless good-natured patience in responding to our requests, guiding us in making the best possible choices at all times.
Head of design Tamar King advised us on how to maximize the use of the space. She was always helpful and displayed good cheer, no matter how fussy and difficult we must have appeared to be sometimes, changing our minds on some of the choices of material, for example.
Lead carpenter Manuel Dye set such high standards of perfection for his work, down to the most minute details, that we are delighted and grateful that it was he who laid the foundations for what has become a beautiful new bathroom.
The entire FOUR BROTHERS team was first-rate in their skills and execution, punctual, hard working, considerate, and nice. Never before have we experienced renovations that were so impeccably done (they separated the work area from the rest of the flat by zippered plastic partitions and they cleaned up every evening before leaving).
We feel quite spoiled having been fortunate enough to find FOUR BROTHERS. We recommend them most highly. Whenever we have any work done on our flat in the future, they will be our one and only choice.”

“Are you looking for a professional design-build firm to handle your renovation soup to nuts? Look no further. We hired Four Brothers to renovate our basement and kitchen, to add a bathroom, and to do some upgrades to our first floor. We can say without hesitation that they are unlike any contractor we have ever dealt with. They not only did high-quality work within the time frame we needed, they did it within the budget upon which we initially agreed and in as courteous and clean a manner as was possible. Liz provided creative design and color suggestions, Ben was ever patient and always available to answer our questions, Walid was a hard worker who always was pleasant, and Sean and Nick did an excellent job keeping us apprised of the status of our project. We definitely would rehire Four Brothers for future projects, and already have recommended them to friends and neighbors.”

“I wholeheartedly recommend Four Brothers after a great experience having bookshelves installed in my condo. The entire process was thorough, professional, and easy for me. After meeting with me to see my space and understand my goals, Liz, the designer, provided several sketch suggestions and thought of every detail. The installation took less than two full days, and Kent cleaned up thoroughly so that when I came home on the second day, I had a beautifully installed unit, with my television and other electronics plugged in and working and no mess to be found. Since the installation, I continue to receive compliments, with friends noting how the unit makes the space feel more open and welcoming. I could not be happier with the end product..”

“I recently contracted with Four Brothers to design and remodel the kitchen in my Washington, DC home. I interviewed some of the areas other top design/build firms, but chose to work with Four Brothers for a number of reasons; not the least of which was the fact that they made me feel comfortable and listened to my ideas – no gimmicks or hard sales pitches here. And I could not be happier with how they performed. From the first design meeting through completion of construction, the level of service far exceeded my expectations. My association with each staff member was professional, and Kent, their lead carpenter who performed the remodel, emailed progress reports at the end of each day. The craftsmanship is of the highest quality and I am thrilled with my new kitchen. The whole experience goes beyond the notion of exceeded expectations. My experience generated gratitude. I’m so grateful to have discovered Four Brothers.”
M.B. (Kalorama, Washington DC – May, 2013)
“I worked with Four Brothers on a kitchen remodel in my 100+ year old condo building. After talking to a handful of contractors who were used to working with larger spaces or bigger budgets, I selected Four Brothers, and I am so pleased with the decision. The design process was straightforward and fun. Liz, the designer, helped me look through and weigh different options for my small space. The resulting design made the kitchen look brighter, airier, and twice as large, and the floor plan maximizes the utility of the kitchen. The demolition and construction process was also a breeze. The work started and finished on time, and I came home to a clean, dust-free apartment every night, and to a beautiful kitchen at the end of the project.”
M.M. (Columbia Heights, Washington DC – May, 2013)
“I love our new bookshelves! My initial contact with the company was through Leroy, who was very responsive, informative and helpful. Liz, the designer, did a great job asking questions that helped me clarify what I was hoping to accomplish in our home. The design she submitted to me was exactly what I had in mind, both practically and aesthetically. She was available to offer advice on the hardware I selected, and which looks perfect with her design.
The person who came to do the work was Kent, and he was courteous and friendly. His attention to detail was most impressive, and he did an outstanding job cleaning up at the end of both days he was in our home. He clearly took pride in his work.
The bookshelf/cabinet combination are even better than I envisioned. Our house is an older home, from the 1930s, and the bookshelves manage to look both in keeping with that time period and fresh and modern. I would highly recommend Four Brothers to anyone looking for custom cabinetry.”

“Four Brothers is a fantastic group. They have just finished installing tile on our kitchen splash back wall; it looks terrific and is a great addition to the room. We have used them before as have neighbors and friends. Different than other contractors, we have found Four Brothers to be prompt and responsive, easy to communicate with and pleasant to work with. They are fine craftsmen, reasonably priced, always on time and on schedule, and they do excellent, professional work. They provide good design suggestions and have a good sense of what will work and how it will look. We recommend Four Brothers without hesitation.”

“After performing a rigorous search for a large excavation and garage build and meeting with a half dozen contractors, I selected Four Brothers LLC to complete the project. The sense of honesty and candor I received during the process was both refreshing and humbling at the same time. They gave options and alternatives across the spectrum of pricing, quality, and value, and their guidance around this daunting project led me to trust in many of the suggestions they proposed. After the timely completion of the build, on budget, I might add, I have nothing but the highest of praise for the company and their work. Now my off street parking is secure, clean… well, my garage is a mess, but I can park in a beautiful garage!”
M.B. (Columbia Heights, Washington DC– March, 2013)
“I’m writing to provide an unconditional recommendation for Four Brothers LLC based on their excellent work on remodeling my early 1970s kitchen. Form our first consultation to the completion of a few final items, they have provided a combination of high-quality craftsmanship and professional service in every aspect of the job. This was my first experience with renovation, and Four Brothers approached it in a way that inspired confidence and completely relieved all my concerns about the project. The company follows a business process that is orderly, logical, and focused on the customer’s highest priorities. They will ask you what matters most to you about your project, and then they will deliver exactly that, and more, at a fair price.

Ben was the face of the company for me, and he demonstrated excellent customer service throughout. He was always accessible, listened carefully when I described the kitchen I was looking for, and offered multiple suggestions for alternative features that were consistent with my overall plan. He brings a very professional but low-key attitude to a project and has a great eye for design and quality work. Liz is an extraordinarily talented kitchen designer who also has a great eye for the possibilities in a small space, and a wide familiarity with design options of all kinds, for all tastes. She clearly loves what she does and she readily helps identify things that you might not even know that you want, but that will be both beautiful and useful. Walid was my lead carpenter, and he could not have been more dedicated to the project. He and Stuart were on site every day, and between the two of them, they could not have taken better care of my small home – both the kitchen work site and the rest of the apartment. They made a great team and worked extremely well with the building management staff throughout. When confronted with unexpected building maintenance issues (broken pipes that were discovered only after walls were removed), they immediately notified the building staff so that repairs could be made, and got word to me along with photos so that I could be aware of the situation. They stuck to the construction schedule with tremendous efficiency, completed each step of the project on time, and left the house every day in remarkably clean condition. The electrical, plumbing, and painting phases were also completed on time and in good order, so that there was only a minor punch list of items to be finalized once the project was substantially finished.

The result for me is the new kitchen I had been thinking of for many years, with professionally finished details far exceeding anything I could have imagined. It has been a great experience all around, and I am very grateful to Four Brothers for making it happen. I recommend them without any hesitation to anyone with a renovation project in mind”

“We are so glad to have crossed paths with Four Brothers Carpentry. We hired them to build a variety of built-ins, bathroom refurbishment, and constructing a kitchen nook. The quality of their work is outstanding and the project went smoothly from start to finish. We also liked their low-key, no-nonsense approach — no hard sells, no attitude, no problems — just nice people doing great work. We would absolutely use them again and strongly recommend them to others.”

“We hired Four Brothers to renovate the entire first floor of our home including a complete rebuild of the kitchen. From the thorough design process to delivery of the final product – Four Brothers overwhelmingly exceeded our expectations. The entire team, especially Leroy, Walid, and Kent, is extremely talented, creative, responsive, punctual, and friendly. Additionally, the project started and ended on time, there were daily clean-ups to minimize dust, and everything came in at budget. The finished product speaks for itself, and the craftsmanship is superb. Everyone who enters the home comments on the quality and fine details of the living & dining rooms and kitchen. We appreciate Four Brothers’ ability to think outside of the box and provide unique solutions that ultimately add value to our home and quality of life. We are definitely working with Four Brothers again on future renovations to the house.”

“We hired Four Brothers for a major kitchen renovation in our row house, which involved the removal of a chimney and creating a new half bath. Four Brothers exceeded expectations. They dealt with all problems that came up during construction and came in on time and just under budget. The entire team, Ben, Kent, Liz, Nathan and Phil were all responsive and kept us continually updated on the progress of the job. We loved the google calendar that informed us of what was going on each day. They also checked in with us whenever issues came up and gave input on our decisions that were very helpful. Phil was a great project manager, and we felt great knowing that he was at our house overseeing every aspect of the job. An added plus is that everyone is so pleasant to work with! We will definitely hire Four Brothers again for future work on our house.”
G.M. (Capitol Hill, Washington DC – January, 2013)
“In 2011, Four Brothers remodeled our kitchen. We were so satisfied with the service and work, in 2012, we invited them to remodel our bathrooms and build customized wall closets and storage for our master bedroom.
When I reflect upon why we are so satisfied with Four Brothers, three phrases constantly come to mind:

  • Commitment to quality
  • Candid input and trustworthy guidance
  • Exceptional service

In the two years that we have worked with Four Brothers, there has never been a moment of hesitation. Each member of the team is talented, respectful and trustworthy. They meet their deadlines and commitments, keep lines of communication open, offer valued opinions, help keep your ideas aligned with your goals and give their best to each activity they perform.
For the bathroom remodeling, they combined two bathrooms into a master bathroom that is modern, sleek and peaceful. They built a customized cabinet and carried over the design to the master bedroom wall closets and storage. The cabinet, closets and storage are stunning.
The team listened to what I wanted and created a unified, beautiful and peaceful space.
If you are looking for a team to help you realize your vision, one which is committed to creating a beautiful and comfortable space with the least amount of trauma to your life during construction, Four Brothers is the company for you. Aside from recommending them to colleagues and friends, we have already found another reason to have them back into our home.”
P.A. (Washington DC – December 2012)
“I contracted with Four Brothers to remodel my small bathroom in a D.C. condo building, and I’m really happy I chose the company. This was my first major renovation, and I’ve heard all the stories about contractors. I would hire Four Brothers again without a moment’s hesitation. From initial contact, through design and construction, to final inspection, Four Brothers exceeded all my expectations. When he first saw the bathroom in order to develop a proposal, Ben instantly found ways to keep the job on budget, advising me to keep what didn’t need to be replaced. Not only were Ben and Walid (my day-to-day construction supervisor) incredibly expert, but they were a total pleasure to work with. They made the entire process fun. Dust and dirt were kept to an absolute minimum, and all the work was completed even faster than I thought it would be. Four Brothers’ professionalism and amazing customer service made the remodel, for me, as painless as it could be. My bathroom is now beautiful, and it was completed on budget!”
M.A. (Adams Morgan, Washington DC – December 2012)
“We hired Four Brothers for a master bath renovation of an awkward, nineteen-foot foot long, narrow space in a 100 year old Woodley Park row house. After some angst over retaining the tub, Ben and the designer provided design options and we opted for a larger walk in shower with contemporary design (having another tub elsewhere in the house). The team provided a Google calendar for the construction schedule and Sean, the on-site carpenter maintained great communications as questions and/or plan adjustments needed to be addressed. The space was tidied at the end of each day and disruption was kept to a minimum. The custom cabinetry is beautiful and the Four Brothers connections to vendors for the tile and countertop kept our design on budget. Our previous bathroom experience was much more of a utilitarian update so this experience highlighted the aesthetic as well as practical advantage of incorporating intelligent designer input up front to make the most of what we had. They also dealt with the unexpected (inadvertent furniture damage) swiftly and professionally. The end result is functional and stunning and completely in keeping with our taste, expectations, and budget. Too bad our renovation list is complete since we would use them again and recommend the Four Brothers unconditionally and enthusiastically.”
C.A. (Woodley Park, Washington, DC – December 2012)
“We’ve used a few other contractors in D.C., but from here out, it’s just Four Brothers for us. Ben’s responsiveness and helpfulness on the business end combined with Alfred’s skilled craftsmanship made this a genuinely pleasant experience. We felt from day one that the team was honest, helpful, and knowledgeable, and that we were getting a fair price for the work required. We live in a 1926 Wardman townhome in D.C., complete with not-quite-level floors and less-than-square corners. When we decided on built-in bookcases and cabinets for our living room, we were anxious to find carpenters who would be up to the task. Four Brothers did not disappoint. Alfred offered wonderful design advice, crafted beautiful shelving and cabinets for us, and tied it all seamlessly into our existing trim and mantle. Alfred was meticulous about cleaning up the workspace every day and kept us continually updated on the timeline for completion. We couldn’t be happier with our Four Brothers experience, and we’d recommend them for any project, large or small.”
T.P. (Columbia Heights, Washington, DC – December 2012)
“Four Brothers recently renovated a kitchen in a condominium for me and I am very happy with the results. Their team is very professional. Leroy is extremely organized and detail oriented. Liz is a great designer who is very easy to work with. Walid, the lead carpenter, kept me updated on an almost daily basis. Everything went exactly as planned and there were no surprises. This was the third company I worked with on this project. The first was a small company in Vienna. They came out and measured but never got back to me. The second was a Washington DC based kitchen remodeling company. After paying the retainer, they would not even let me have a copy of the design. They did put in a bathroom for me and although it came out nicely, there was a lot of confusion, change orders that I didn’t know about, etc. so that I was not comfortable working with them again. I found Four Brothers on Angie’s List and am really glad I did. I recommend them very highly as an honest, well run company that produces great results!”
A.N (Cleveland Park, Washington, DC – November 2012)
“I am so pleased with my kitchen update just completed by Four Brothers, LLC. From my initial contacts with Ben Johnson, to my interaction with Liz in designing the kitchen renovation and reviewing and selecting materials, to my daily review and conversations with the lead carpenter Walid, my whole experience with Four Brothers was excellent. I would highly recommend them to friends, and have recommended them to my neighbors. I was always kept apprised of the work schedule and possible delays. Walid oversaw my project with professionalism and courtesy. He ensured that my house was clean and the project materials were stored each day, and he updated me daily on sub-contractors coming to the house to complete aspects of the project. This is a great young and up-and-coming remodeling company that does excellent work, and strives to provide the best customer service.”
E.H.S. (Glover Park, Washington, DC – November 2012)
“I feel so fortunate to have found Four Brothers as the designer and builder of our kitchen and mudroom redesign. From day one, they were exceptionally professional and timely, encouraging me to make decisions to help ensure that our project was completed on time and within budget. Every step of the way, they delivered what they promised; arrived when they said they would arrive; created high-quality, beautiful designs and finished products; and remained friendly and communicative. Liz, the kitchen designer, couldn’t have been more helpful in translating my fuzzy vision into two extremely workable spaces. Manual, our lead carpenter, was in our house every day and couldn’t have been more thoughtful, professional, tidy, and skilled. Leroy and Kent are both creative and straightforward and intelligent. The end result is a kitchen and a mudroom that are everything I wanted: functional, user-friendly, high quality, and gorgeous–and completed exactly on time! We’ve already started working with Four Brothers to begin a second project in our home; I give Four Brothers my absolute highest recommendation!
G.R. (Chevy Chase, Washington, DC – October 2012)
“We were thoroughly pleased with Four Brothers – they’re terrific! Our project consisted of custom-built painted book shelves that flank (and go under) a large window and custom-built bifold French doors at the entrance to a study. Ben worked with us by phone and email setting up and managing the project, and Alfred made several site visits to work out the details before we finalized plans. Alfred also built and installed everything.
Both brothers were immediately responsive throughout the project and their estimates for cost, timing, and installation were all on-point. We were thoroughly pleased with all aspects of the project – responsiveness, timeliness, design, craftsmanship, construction, cleanliness. They are a very classy company! We would definitely use them again.”
E.L. (Friendship Heights, Washington, DC – October 2012)
“Our light-filled screened-in porch is the focal point of our home, we absolutely love it and so do the family and friends who enjoy it with us. Together with Four Brothers, we designed a large, bright, airy, screened-in porch that enabled us to enjoy the outdoors without being hampered by rain, mosquitoes, humidity or heat. Discreetly built-in storage and seating added to both the aesthetics and the practical uses. Four Brothers worked hard to keep the project on time and on budget. When unexpected costs did arise, due to the existing foundations, we worked out a solution that was fair in cost and solid in construction. The porch will probably be the last room standing in the house many decades from now! We have engaged Four Brothers for other home projects and have no hesitation in recommending them. Their professionalism, punctuality, site clean-up and responsiveness, easily surpassed previous companies we have employed.”
J.C. (Palisades, DC – October 2012)
“We hired Four Brothers to construct some built in cabinetry, but found in our initial discussions that our vision was so aligned that we would move forward with a ground floor renovation which included our kitchen and powder room. Liz really listened to our ideas, and was able to conceive a new kitchen design that beautifully met our needs. At every point, Four Brothers would answer questions, and address any of our concerns, quickly and thoroughly. We took lead safety very seriously and when our young children tested zero for lead levels after living at home throughout the renovations it was because of Four Brothers’ careful precautions. The brothers and their employees were consistently on time and friendly. Our project was finished on time and on budget even after a delay with a third party vendor. For these reasons we recommend Four Brothers without hesitation and would not consider doing any future renovations without them.”
C.M. (Worthington Pl, Chevy Chase, DC – September 2012)
“Four Brothers was recommended to me by my next door neighbor, and I did see first hand the results of their work. I was interested in having my basement finished in a high-end manner (including wet bar and full bath), to really create an inviting space for my family and friends. What I brought to the table is my personality: being extremely particular in every detail, not wanting a disruption to my life during the process, and scared to death about losing sleep and gaining stress. To me, the most important factor was my trust and confidence in Four Brothers. Their caring nature made me feel like the fifth brother. They were able to listen to and understand my desires, then help me make informed decisions. I have worked with other contractors (full kitchen renovation) that could be cheaper for someone interested in flipping a house, but if you are getting work done on your own home and you want to not be worrying about walls caving in, enjoy (really, no kidding) the process, and relish in the results, I’d go with Four Brothers. You would never guess, but I now prefer showering in my new basement bath.”
G.K. (Lamont St, Mt Pleasant DC – September 2012)
“We love Four Brothers and we love the two bathrooms that they gutted, redesigned, and rebuilt for us in 2009. We had two dilapidated, small, second floor bathrooms in an almost hundred-year-old row house in the District. Four Brothers creatively redesigned the spaces, making room for a soaking tub in one bathroom, and a modern glass shower in the other, carving out a little extra space from a bedroom. They then rebuilt the bathrooms according to the design, from the joists under the floor to the skylights. Over three years later, I still get a thrill walking into the “new” bathrooms. Four Brothers was a pleasure to work with; they are honest, meticulous, and thorough, and take great pride in their work and craftsmanship”

“I just wanted to send a note thanking Four Brothers for the fantastic job you did on renovating my bathroom. Unlike the other contractor I had hired for the job, Four Brothers took the time to return calls, answer questions, and address concerns in a timely fashion. I am very happy with the quality of your work. But most of all I am happy with the fantastic customer service you provided from day one. Please thank everyone involved, especially the field team for their punctual arrival and immaculate clean up each day. Your approach and treatment of me as a customer was outstanding. Four Brothers should be very proud of the type of business that you run. Thank you again and I will be keeping you in mind for the next renovation project.”

“We hired Four Brothers to help us create a long-awaited third floor master suite. We had very high expectations, but the end result still managed to far exceed them, both aesthetically and functionally. From the project’s inception, we had a collaborative relationship with Four Brothers. They patiently and carefully listened to our ideas and concerns and came up with innovative solutions. Leroy worked hard to keep our project on-budget, informing us of unanticipated costs along the way and suggesting ways to keep on track; Matthew is a gifted architect, whose designs really set the tone for the project; and Walid was the project foreman extraordinaire. Anyone who has done any renovation work knows that you will be seeing A LOT of the foreman. Walid is exactly the person you want – meticulous in his craft, punctual, respectful of the home and homeowners, hardworking, and pleasant to be around. We are thrilled with our new master suite and thank Four Brothers for their hard work.”

“Hi. I know it’s been a while.  I hope you are well. I just wanted to let you know that we are getting ready to put our house on the market, and our realtor is crazy about our kitchen. She has remarked that it’s so much nicer than our competition! We are very sorry to maybe be leaving that part of our house – we were just saying last night how nice it would be to pick it up and move it with us. I really wouldn’t change anything – which I think is quite rare. We get complimented on how great it is by almost everyone who comes in. If the house we are looking at works out, there are probably going to be lots of projects! (The kitchen is definitely high on the list.) Just wanted to say a belated thank you.”
C.E.  (Alexandria, VA – March 2012)
“Everything looks great; Keith and his team did a fantastic job. He was always prompt, professional, and courteous, and he was always ready to answer our questions and to seek our input as needed. The same is true for the rest of the team, we’re very glad that we went with Four Brothers for this project.”

“Hi. I am back. Thanks for completing the kitchen while I was gone. I like it, it looks good. Love the back splash. The opaque tile though white appears to have a grayish, bluish. greenish tinge which blends well with the stainless steel appliances. It makes me want to do some more updating. Not ready for another major remodel project though. Need a break before I can jump back in again.”
R.D. (New Hampshire Ave – April 2012)
“Our home was built in 1923, and it has never looked so good until after our Four Brothers renovations! In 2010, we hired Four Brothers to renovate our entire second floor, replacing two bathrooms and building built-ins and closets, and the results were so great that we had them back during 2011 to renovate our first floor kitchen and powder room. We interviewed many of the local “top tier” design build companies and chose Four Brothers based on the knowledge they had experience with renovating old homes (what to expect when unearthing a century old bathroom, replacing and updating plumbing and electricity, etc.). We also wanted a company that would comply with all of the local permitting rules, etc. and be responsible for the work of its contractors. Finally we wanted a firm that would help us think innovatively about our space and design. They were on time and within budget, without sacrificing aesthetics.”

“As a business owner, I know the importance of commitment to excellence, timeliness and staying within budget. Four Brothers, LLC hit a home run on all fronts, the project was delivered on time and within budget. From the first meeting with Ben until the last day when the work was complete—every commitment was honored and the craftsmanship was top notch. It is clear that the Four Brothers team is committed to their work and love their jobs. Seeing this love and dedication on a daily basis, gave me a peace of mind, and I never questioned that the result would be extraordinary.During the construction, we had an unrelated water leak. Four Brothers proactively stepped in, addressed the problem, and explained what I needed to do to address the problem long term. Four Brothers’ willingness to go the extra mile is a hallmark of its service. I cannot thank the Four Brothers team enough for our beautiful kitchen. Every day I walk in and am overcome with a sense of peace. THANK YOU!”

“When the time came for our major remodel (basically a complete gut and re-do of half of our main living area, bedroom and master bathroom) Four Brothers was the first and only company I called. They worked well with the architect I’d hired, and there was a smooth transition from the high-level design phase to the detailed design and build.
To a man, they were an absolute pleasure to work with. They were very responsible, punctual, and polite. Their design staff helped us with the fixtures, tiles, and other details, and they kept on top of their subcontractors. There were some delays with the plumbers and they pressed them to bring on more people to help recover the schedule. They weren’t satisfied with the fit of the shower door in the master bath (even though I didn’t notice anything wrong with it) and had the glass company make another one.Four Brothers also kept to the budget we had agreed to, with the understandable exception of some additional structural work that wasn’t apparent until the demolition was finished, and that was probably about 2% of the total project budget. They were very meticulous about accurately billing us, and gave us correct credits when the fixtures we eventually bought were less expensive than the original allowances. The day-to-day construction supervisor was named Walid Kraydi; you should ask to have him assigned to your project if possible. He was very exacting, and the tile job he did in our master bathroom is terrific.”

“We are so happy with our new kitchen, laundry room, addition and deck! It’s funny thinking about how we managed with our old tiny kitchen for so many years! Now I can cook, my husband can access the fridge and one of the kids can load the dishwasher all at the same time without bumping into one another….it’s so GREAT! The kitchen is now an integrated part of our living space. Four Brothers did a wonderful job taking our ideas and making them a functional, beautiful reality. We highly recommend Four Brothers to anyone looking for renovations.”

“Now that our remodeling project is complete, it is clear that your descriptions of your work are modest. We did not realize that the built-in drawers would be made of maple and finished so well, that they would be dovetailed, or that they would gently glide closed. We could tell from your photo gallery that your built-ins are beautifully proportioned and made, but did not pick up on some of the subtle details. You just don’t see this kind of craftsmanship except in totally unaffordable pieces!”

“We couldn’t be happier with our new kitchen, and we have encouraged everyone we know to use Four Brothers for all of their design and build projects. Their design managed to capture the spirit of a modern, working kitchen while still fitting into the architecture of our condo. The design was inspired and solved some very difficult issues that other contractors we had contacted never even contemplated. In the end, going with Four Brothers, and their innovative solutions, saved us several thousand dollars.

We were so impressed that Four Brothers’ in-house carpenter was on-site every day, and that he translated the design into reality – no small feat in a home over 100 years old where nothing was level. The beauty of the final product speaks volumes about the quality of workmanship of the Four Brothers team. For all of these reasons, and their ability to come in on-budget and on schedule, we will certainly use Four Brothers again in the future.”

“The guys from Four Brothers worked hard and were mindful that they were in our home. Most importantly, they knew what they were doing. The fine workmanship done by such nice fellows made home renovation much easier than stories I’ve heard from others. I have recommended Four Brothers to everyone I know that is undertaking renovation. I would hire them again without hesitation if I need anything else.”

“Being new to Washington DC, my husband and I purchased a 2 bedroom condo in the prestigious neighborhood of Kalorama with the intention of renovating the unit completely. I am an Architectural Designer with over 20 years of experience with very high standards and an eye for details. Initially, we were unable to find a contractor in the area that we liked, and it wasn’t until after months of renovating ourselves, that we met Leroy Johnson of Four Brothers. We were so impressed that we hired Four Brothers to complete our project. This involved finishing the kitchen, and gutting and rebuilding two bathrooms; one that was completely custom designed. Not only did Four Brothers complete the project on schedule and on budget, but their quality of work was also very impressive! On a daily basis, the company and its representatives were very respectful of our home and property. Leroy was on-site almost every day and always made himself available to answer all our questions and help resolve any unpredictable issues that came up. Four Brothers did an exceptional job at paying attention to the level of detail that I was demanding and at no time did I feel that the job was compromised. I have worked with many builders and contractors over the years and Four Brothers ranks as one of the best companies I have had the pleasure to deal with. As Homeowners, both my husband and I have absolutely no reservations about recommending them.”

“We were very pleased with Alfred – he is so friendly, professional and honest. Even the kids loved him! The only problem we had was a misunderstanding about the type of door lock, but Alfred was extremely helpful in resolving the issue. We will definitely contact Four Brothers in the future – thanks!”
A.Y. (12th Street, NW)
“Leroy is a really nice guy, consistently reliable and communicative. He spent months designing a kitchen redo for our small kitchen, which has three doorways which weren’t moving. He focused on scaling down the cabinetry and appliances and using every available inch of space. After looking at photographs and discussing a look, he and Alfred built beautiful open wooden shelves in lieu of uppers, which also really opened the room up. He also incorporated lots of vintage materials. The end result is gorgeous; it has an old school simplicity and new spaciousness at the same time. And the journey was fun. Thanks Leroy, Alfred, Ben and Kent.”

“I contracted Four Brothers to perform a complete pull-and-replace of my kitchen in my condo and moderate renovation of my bathroom. Overall I was very satisfied with their performance in both the design and execution phases of the process. They worked with me to help me understand the costs involved, they helped with material selection and acquisition, and they always responded to my communications in a timely manner. The finished kitchen was of top notch quality and they offered several creative solutions to several construction issues relating to the physical structure of the kitchen. They displayed a very courteous and respectful attitude when working in my home and with me and were always eager to offer ideas for making the kitchen great.”

“In addition to the quality of work we also appreciated the email access which allowed for rapid communication.”

“We have just used Four Brothers to help us design and install a new side door and small deck for our home. It was great working with Four Brothers on this project from the time of our initial phone call through the design and construction process. Their responsiveness, professionalism, and quality workmanship were always great. In fact, we have other projects planned around our home and our first phone call regarding these jobs will be to Four Brothers.”
F.M. (32nd Street, NW)
“We have had Four Brothers remodel two bathrooms, install cork flooring, convert our screened porch, and reinforce a roof system along with building a storage loft in an out building on our property.

  • The bathrooms included design and ceramic tile work. Their ideas for tile design were excellent, along with taking out the existing closet and replacing with a linen cabinet to open up the space. We also took their advice to install glass doors on the tub, which gave us more daylight in the tub area and the illusion of more space as well.
  • Their design of a knee wall made out of bead board under the “Easy Breeze” windows was just what we were looking for in a porch enclosure. It enables us to have a screened porch or sunroom by just opening or closing the windows. The shelf they suggested above the bead board looks great and is also functional.
  • Our out building was not stable, so they reinforced the roof system which tightened everything up. The loft they installed in part of the building is used for storage.

We have been extremely pleased with all work performed by these fine young men. Their attention to detail and customer satisfaction is above and beyond others in their field. We have found them to be very trustworthy and friendly and have never hesitated to leave them in our home while we have been away to do their work. At the end of every work day, they always clean up, even if they are coming back the next day. We will be using them for all of our projects in the future and highly recommend their company.”
